In 2002 I saw a real need in my community to provide quality early childhood education and care, where children's interests and needs are foremost in the running of the programme.

I wanted a place where families/whanau are welcome at any time so they can feel a part of their child's home away from home. I look forward to you and your child becoming involved in the First Learners experience.

Our Philoshophy

First Learners are homely centres which off tamariki, their families/whanau and our teachers/staff a place that empowers them to make choices that suit their individual needs and requirements.

A place that enables each individual to develop at their own pace, to be unique, and have their individuality recognised and celebrated. A place that is rich in wonder, curiosity, excitement and fun. A place where there is no distinction between learning and play.

About Us

First Learners was started in January 2002.

Linda Broekman is the owner/manager of First Learners centres. She started her career in Kindergarten after completing her training at the end of 1974 in Christchurch. She has worked in a variety of Early childhood settings including kindergarten, playcentre, community based childcare, before purchasing a centre in Rangiora in January 2002, and so began First Learners.
