Our Philosophy
We provide a child initiated educational programme in a homely, welcoming environment. A place to learn and grow.
Our centres are a place of wonder, curiosity, creativity, excitement and fun. Our aim is to stimulate and challenge children/tamariki to become competent and confident lifelong learners.
We provide teaching practices and procedures that are constantly reviewed and improved to ensure First Learners culture and vision continues into the future.
Family/Community. We believe in:
- Strong positive relationships
- Bicultural practices/respectful of all cultures
- Inclusion of all children/tamariki and their families/whanau
- Links with the wider community
Curriculum. We believe in:
- Free play with some structured times integrated into the programme as appropriate to age and development of the child
- Child initiated learning
- Children respected as individuals
- Focus on the learning processes not the end product
- Teachers/kaiako and children/tamariki have shared learning experiences
Environment. We believe in:
- A homely, relaxed, friendly, welcoming atmosphere
- Children being able to access indoor and outdoor environments that encourage choice, creativity and exploration.
